Frustration over the brazen antics of some street performers and costumed characters in Times Square has caused the Times Square Alliance to come up with a novel idea: Hoping Alec Baldwin can use his celebrity to shine a light on the issue.

The plan will add longer trains and wheelchair access for the shuttle which links the Times Square Station to Grand Central Terminal.

NEW YORK (AP) — Frantic people scrambled to get out of Times Square on Tuesday evening, pounding on theater doors to find a place to hide after the sound of a motorcycle backfiring caused fear that gunshots were being fired in the wake of mass shootings in other American cities.

The Times Square Alliance put the finishing touches on the New Year's Eve show Friday morning with a confetti test. About 3,000 pounds of colorful confetti will fly through the sky. Passersby in Times Square got the chance to write their resolutions on the confetti.

Police in New York City are hunting for a man who gunned down another man on 7th Avenue in the heart of Times Square just before 4 a.m. outside of the Tonic bar and Lace strip club. After a 911 call, rescue personnel found the 27-year-old victim with a gunshot wound to the head. He was rushed to Bellevue Hospital but it was too late to save him.

A fire that broke out in the parking garage in Times Square prompted the partial evacuation of an office building Monday evening. Firefighters responded to 1540 Broadway shortly after 4 p.m., the FDNY said. The 45-story tower houses several major companies, including Viacom, and retailers, including the Disney Store.

Federal officials claim that they have stopped a plan to carry out terror attacks at several locations in New York City, including Times Square, concert venues, subway stations, and more. A federal court on Friday unsealed indictments against three men in connection with the failed plot, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Joon Kim. The men planned to carry out the attacks during summer 2016 in the name of ISIS, Kim said.
