Edison main break leaves thousands of residents with little to no water: Latest
EDISON, N.J. - A water main break in the south end of Edison, New Jersey, caused widespread water outages for thousands of residents Thursday morning.
According to officials, the 20-inch main broke around midnight near M Lane and Woodbridge Avenue. The break impacted residents along Woodbridge Avenue, Route 27, and areas up to Talmadge Road.
Residents are reportedly experiencing low to no water pressure as crews work to isolate the break and make repairs.
SkyFOX showed Edison water utility and several other city departments working to contain the break.
According to Edison Mayor Sam Joshi, the break is linked to the town's aging infrastructure, whose problems were exacerbated by recent freezing temperatures.
"This is a larger problem with aging infrastructure in general. Some of these pipes date back to about 80 years," Joshi said.
Joshi says residents would be periodically notified of any updates and advised them to conserve water in the meantime.
Businesses in the affected area have also been forced to close temporarily, with signs on doors informing customers of the disruption.
Crews are expected to work into the night to complete the repairs and restore service. Residents are advised to rely on bottled water until the situation is resolved.
