LIRR train derailment leaves 13 injured

Officials say more than a dozen passengers suffered injuries when a Long Island Rail Road train derailed in Jamaica, Queens on Thursday morning. According to the FDNY, 13 passengers suffered injuries, nine minor, two moderate and two serious.

The MTA confirmed that 13 people were injured after a Long Island Rail Road train derailed in Queens on Thursday morning.

According to the MTA, train number 722 derailed shortly after 11 a.m. just east of the Jamaica station.

The train, which was going around 54 miles per hour, had all eight of its cars derail near 175th Street and 93rd Avenue. 

A massive response from emergency services saw a rescue train brought in to transport any uninjured passengers.

Authorities say that 13 people were injured in the derailment. Nine of the injuries are said to be minor, with two moderate and another two serious, but all victims are expected to recover.

MTA Chairman Janno Lieber said the derailment will affect the commute Thursday night and into the morning on Friday.

According to the LIRR, NYC transit authorities will be cross-honoring on the Q2, Q3, Q8 and Q110 buses for services between Jamaica and Queens
