Jersey City stabbing: 2 kids, 1 adult dead in domestic violence incident

Three people were fatally stabbed, including two children, inside an apartment building in Jersey City on Thursday morning in what Mayor Steven Fulop called a "terrible triple homicide" that was "related to domestic violence."

What we know:

According to the mayor, a man stabbed the two kids – a five-year-old and a nine-year-old – and a woman to death, and then tried to stab himself. Fulop added the man is currently in police custody. 

Investigators were on Hutton Street for several hours this morning, focusing their attention on one street-level apartment.

Officials said they deployed chaplains and social workers to the neighborhood to help with the tragic event.

What they're saying:

"This was a terrible triple homicide that occurred last night related to domestic violence," Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop said in a post on X. "Woman and two children aged 5 and 9 deceased and then the male actor tried to stab himself. The man is in custody right now. We have chaplains and social workers in the neighborhood to work with family + neighbors. We are working closely with the HCPO."

What we don't know:

The identity of the man taken into police custody was unknown at the time.
