MTA board approves fare hikes
Get ready to pay more for your subway and bus rides as the MTA just approved fare hikes starting next summer. FOX 5 NY's Morgan McKay has the details on how much more riders will have to pay.
NEW YORK - The MTA approved a plan on Wednesday that will raise fares and tolls starting next August.
Fares and tolls usually go up by about 4% each year, which means bus and subway rides could cost $3. The exact new prices will be announced later today.
Last year, subway and bus fares went from $2.75 to $2.90. The 7-day unlimited MetroCard went up by $1 to $34, and the 30-day unlimited card increased to $132.
For Metro-North and LIRR riders, weekly and monthly tickets will go up by 4.5%.
Tolls for bridges and tunnels will increase by 6% for E-ZPass users and 10% for those who pay by mail.
Starting January 5, drivers entering Manhattan below 60th Street will pay $9 under the new congestion pricing plan.
