Suitcase with human remains found floating in East River: NYPD

The Brief

    • The NYPD is investigating after a suitcase containing human remains was found in the East River near Governor’s Island on Wednesday.
    • The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is still working to determine the cause of death.
    • The identity of the victim has not been released.

NEW YORK - The NYPD is investigating after a suitcase containing human remains was found in the East River near Governor’s Island on Wednesday.

What we know:

Police said they found the suitcase at around 5:30 p.m. The suitcase was then transported to Pier 16, where EMS pronounced the individual dead.

What we don't know:

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is still working to determine the cause of death. 

The identity of the victim has not been released.

The investigation is ongoing.
