'Gypsy' Broadway show canceled again due to 'continued illness'

The Broadway production of Gypsy has canceled its Thursday matinee performance for the second time this week due to "continued illness" within the company.

The show announced the cancellation on X, stating, "Due to continued illness within the company, this afternoon’s performance is cancelled."

On Christmas Day, the show was canceled for the same reason.

While the exact details of the illness and the affected individuals remain unclear, many theatergoers expressed frustration over the short notice of the cancellation.

One user wrote: "For those of us traveling in for the matinee tomorrow, it would be great to have some advance notice on that one - thanks!"

"Such a joke. #TheShowMustGoOn," another user wrote.

Gypsy, starring six-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald and Tony Award winner Danny Burstein, is based on the 1957 memoirs of striptease artist Gypsy Rose Lee.

The show focuses on her mother, Rose, whose name has become synonymous with "the ultimate show business mother."

It follows Rose’s efforts to raise her two daughters to perform onstage, casting an affectionate eye on the hardships of show business life.
