Ex-NYPD Chief Jeffrey Maddrey’s lawyer denies allegations

Former NYPD Chief Jeffrey Maddrey denied allegations of sexual misconduct at a press conference, calling them retaliatory. His lawyers allege the claims are tied to an internal investigation into his accuser, Lt. Quathisha Epps, and say they have evidence of a consensual relationship. FOX 5's Jessica Formoso has the story.

Maddrey has been accused of demanding sexual favors from the subordinate in exchange for massive amounts of overtime.

The NYPD’s Chief of Department, Jeffrey Maddrey, resigned Dec. 20  after being accused of demanding sexual favors from a subordinate, Lt. Quathisha Epps, in exchange for overtime opportunities.

Epps filed a federal complaint alleging Maddrey engaged in "quid pro quo sexual harassment" and retaliated against her when she resisted.

Maddrey, at the time, admitted to having a "consensual, adult relationship" with Lt. Quathisha Epps — but denied her sexual favor claims.

NYPD Commissioner Caban resigns amid federal probe

Mayor Adams confirmed that he received Caban's resignation letter and announced that Tom Donlon, a prominent former FBI and counterterrorism official, would replace him.

‘Quid pro quo’ sexual harassment claims

Epps, the department’s top earner in 2024, claims Maddrey falsely accused her of overtime abuse, leading to her suspension without pay. Her attorney, Eric Sanders, called the resignation overdue, stating, "This has been years in the making."

Maddrey denies the allegations, calling them "completely meritless."

Epps, who held an administrative post in Maddrey’s office, was the NYPD’s top earner in fiscal year 2024, payroll data shows.

The Post reports that of the more than $400,000 she raked in, more than half of it was overtime pay.

Who is Jeffery Maddrey?

Maddrey joined the NYPD in 1991, becoming Chief of Patrol in 2021 and Chief of Department in 2023. His role involved overseeing the department’s crime-fighting strategies and operational plans.

Maddrey has been the subject of other misconduct allegations, including one from a police captain who said she rebuffed his unwanted advances for years.

Capt. Gabrielle Walls, said Maddrey’s resignation "vindicates" her long-standing claims of harassment.
