Car owner dragged, injured trying to stop Bronx car thief

A man is in critical condition after trying to stop a thief from stealing his car in the Pelham Bay section of the Bronx. 

Disturbing video shows the victim clinging to his vehicle as the suspect drives off, ultimately crashing into other cars and throwing the victim onto the street.

Surveillance video shows the alleged car owner hanging from the side of the car window as the vehicle speeds away.

What we know:

The incident occurred Tuesday afternoon outside a Chinese takeout restaurant on Westchester Avenue in the Bronx. The victim had reportedly double-parked and left his black Infiniti running while he went inside to get food. Moments later, a suspect jumped into the vehicle and drove away.

Surveillance footage captured the victim running out and grabbing onto the driver’s side door as the suspect sped off. He was dragged for multiple blocks before the car crashed into parked vehicles on Wilkinson Avenue. The victim was thrown into the street and left behind as the suspect continued driving.

The car was later found abandoned nearby. The victim, who suffered severe leg trauma, is being treated at Jacobi Hospital and remains in critical condition.

Authorities are still searching for the suspect and an investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
