Can U.S. still reach herd immunity?

Health officials had hoped the U.S. could achieve herd immunity if about 70% of the population developed antibodies from a COVID infection or got vaccinated. But the rise of highly infectious variants and falling vaccination rates have made the goal of herd immunity elusive.
