Columbus' place in history

The crowds were a little smaller than usual at the Columbus Day Parade. That was likely due to rain. While the parade celebrates a figure increasingly shrouded in controversy, Mayor Bill de Blasio said our attention shouldn't be on Christopher Columbus but rather on Italian American heritage and culture. But opposition to symbols and celebrations honoring Columbus is growing and so is the push to change how we look at Columbus' place in history.
