Starting April 17, New Yorkers will no longer be fined for jaywalking, thanks to a new law passed by the City Council. The controversial move eliminates the longstanding $250 penalty and is aimed at addressing disproportionate enforcement — with 92% of past tickets going to Black and Latino residents.
