NJ Now: Literacy crisis
According to the National Assessment of Education Progress, numbers show that 43%, not even half of fourth graders in the U.S. scored at or above a proficient level in reading as the numbers are even worse for marginalized students. Governor Murphy has signed bills in an effort to boost student literacy in New Jersey, especially following the challenges presented by the pandemic.
