Subway crime is issue of perception, MTA says

MTA officials say rising concerns about crime in New York City's subways are primarily a matter of perception, as, despite recent-high profile incidents, crime on the subway is down compared to before the pandemic.

Gov. Hochul and Mayor Adams said they would send more MTA and NYPD officers on patrol in the subway, along with installing more surveillance cameras and increasing support for severely mentally ill people.
