MTA approves plan that could cut 2,700 jobs

The MTA board voted Wednesday to approve a major transformation plan which would consolidate more than 40 departments into six and could eliminate as many as 2,700 jobs.

Subway service improvements

New numbers from the MTA are hard to swallow for many New York City commuters. The transit authority says subways were on-time nearly 80% this April. That’s the highest weekday on-time performance level since October 2013. The figures also show the average weekday commuter spent 34 fewer seconds on the train and platform per trip.

MTA overtime monitor

After an emergency board meeting that became very heated on Friday, MTA CEO and Chairman Patrick Foye said an independent monitor will be assigned to investigate allegations of overtime abuse.
