Yankees kick off Hope Week
NEW YORK (FOX5NY.COM) - Foam pits, pie faces, and muddy puddles—it sounds like a dream day for any child.
In honor of their late son Ty, Cindy and Louis Campbell created the Muddy Puddles Project to celebrate childhood while also raising money and awareness for pediatric cancer research. This year, the Yankees surprised families at the event and donated $10,000 as part of the team's Hope Week.
Ty was just 2-1/2 years old when he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. He passed away just days after his 5th birthday.
Players Brett Gardner, Sonny Gray, and Didi Gregorius, manager Aaron Boone, and bench coach Josh Bard went to Mohawk Day Camp in White Plains, New York.
The fun was easy to see. The Yankees found their inner-child, which is the goal of the mess fest. The day celebrates kids being kids in honor of those who can't.
