Officers shot, suspect killed in New Jersey

A NYPD officer and a Woodbridge, New Jersey police officer were shot by a suspect at the Raritan Hotel on Wednesday night. Police shot and killed the suspect.

An NYPD officer, as well as a New Jersey officer, were shot overnight at the Raritan Hotel in Woodbridge.

Several law enforcement agencies, including Woodbridge and Edison police – as well as the NYPD – responded to the hotel complex on King Georges Post Road, which is also home to a banquet hall.

What we know about the shooting

Two NYPD officers were on-duty when they arrived at the complex to investigate a New York City homicide case.

Officer-involved shooting investigation

Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened around midnight at a hotel complex in Woodbridge, NJ. FOX 5 NY's Briella Tomassetti has the latest.

According to New Jersey Attorney General Matt Platkin, the NYPD officers and Woodbridge police officers managed to locate a man in the area of the Royal Albert's Palace Hotel through automatic license plate reader technology. 

The vehicle was registered to a person of interest in the murder case. 

As police closed in on the suspect, authorities say the suspect opened fire on law enforcement.

One NYPD officer was shot in the foot, while a Woodbridge police officer was also struck by gunfire, though it’s unclear where. Both are expected to recover. The suspect was shot and killed at the scene.

"The NYPD detective who was shot and injured in Woodbridge, NJ underscores the courage and commitment by members of the Detectives’ Endowment Association to put themselves in extreme danger to ensure violent, career criminals face justice," DEA President Paul DiGiacomo said. "If not for their diligent work searching for this wanted attempted murder suspect, the perpetrator could have struck again in any of our communities. We are grateful to not be planning a funeral – and salute the brave detectives and Woodbridge police officers."

Shooting investigation in Woodbridge, NJ

New York and New Jersey officials responded to reports of a shooting around midnight at a hotel complex in Woodbridge. FOX 5 NY's Briella Tomassetti has the details.

SkyFOX video showed investigators focusing their attention on a back parking lot behind the hotel. At one point, a tow truck was seen towing away a white SUV.

The New Jersey Attorney General's Office has taken over the investigation. The circumstances behind the shooting are still unclear.
