Vigil for Bronx shooting victim

A vigil was held in the Bronx where a 61-year-old woman was fatally shot in the back when she was walking home. Her sons expressed outrage over the killing.

Police have identified the woman who was shot in the back and killed as she walked along a sidewalk in the Bronx.

Juana Esperanza Soriano De-Perdomo, 61, of East 145th Street, was struck by a stray bullet at about 7:07 p.m. in front of a deli at 114 East 188 Street in the Fordham Heights section.

Two groups of men got into a fight and several of them pulled out guns, police said. Someone opened fire, hitting Soriano De-Perdomo.

Bronx woman killed in shooting

Police said Juana Esperanza Soriano De-Perdomo, 61, was a bystander when she was shot in the back in the Bronx.

Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell spoke at a late-night news conference at the scene of the shooting. She said the woman was not the intended target.

Officers who responded to the shooting tried to stop the bleeding and performed CPR until medics arrived, police said.

Soriano De-Perdomo was pronounced dead at St. Barnabas Hospital.

Sewell said the NYPD would spare no resource to find the men who were involved.

"Another act of senseless violence on the streets of this city. Mindless shootings without thought or fear of the consequences," said Sewell.

Innocent bystander killed in Bronx

Juana Esperanza Soriano De-Perdomo, 61, was identified as the woman shot in the back and killed as she walked along East 188th Street.

The shooting took place on the same day Sewell and Mayor Eric Adams visited the family of Kade Lewin, 12, in Brooklyn who was shot and killed while sitting in the passenger seat of a car when bullets pierced the windshield.

No arrests had been made in that case.

"All I'm asking is please come forward, please, please, somebody say something. I'm asking for justice for Kade" said Kade's mother, Suzette Lewin.
