NYC noise complaints on the rise

If there's one thing that bonds all New Yorkers, its the noises in the city. 311 has been receiving calls of more noise complaints in the city. FOX 5 NY's Kendall Green reports.

New York City is known as one of the busiest cities in the world with lots of hustle and bustle, and no matter where you go you can't escape the noise.

The city has more than 8 million people and challenges and complaints are inevitable.

What did New Yorkers complain about in 2024?

The city’s chief non-emergency top complaint of 2024 was, you guessed it, noise.

"That’s crazy. As a New Yorker, you shouldn’t care about noise. We live in the busiest city. I’m on Long Island. I should be complaining," a New Yorker told FOX 5 NY.

Why can't New York City escape the noise?

There’s so much noise in the city, including the streets and sidewalks, cars, and helicopters in the sky.

Residential noise, though, ran up the largest grand total with more than 356,000 calls.

"I feel like it’s the recent people who just moved here stuff like that because they’re not used to it like how we are," another New Yorker said.

Other 311 complaints included people urinating in public, reporting illegal animals kept as pets, and "suspicious neighbors" service request calls.

Yet noise, practically apart from the city’s infrastructure, made the most waves across the city in 2024.
