Western NY man sentenced for robbery during string of crimes

BATAVIA, N.Y. (AP) — A career criminal has been sentenced for a knifepoint robbery committed during what authorities say was a string of crimes in four upstate New York counties two years ago.

The Daily News of Batavia (http://bit.ly/1DgyMqa ) reports 64-year-old John Malowsky of Attica was recently sentenced to 15 years in state prison after pleading guilty to robbing a pharmacy in the Tioga County town of Owego in February 2013. Police caught him outside the store.

Officials said Malowsky was also involved in a series of crimes in Chemung, Steuben and Broome counties, including robberies, sexual assault and rape.

He pleaded guilty in May in Broome County to a charge of criminal sexual act. He is scheduled to be sentenced to 15 years in prison Aug. 4.

Malowsky's criminal record dates back to the 1970s in Washington, Genesee and Livingston counties.
