Many New Yorkers could be ringing in the new year with umbrellas, as a rain event is expected to drench much of the East coast.

A storm system is expected to move into the region tonight into Wednesday morning, meaning New York City will likely see rainy weather as the clock approaches midnight.  

Will rain fall during Times Square celebrations?

For the million or so people who will pack Times Square, plan on rain at times with temperatures in the 40s.

According to the National Weather Service, the Big Apple will see rain and possibly a thunderstorm before 1 a.m. The chance of precipitation is 100%.

"Showers and storms will cross through this evening as we approach midnight so be ready," FOX 5 NY's Mike Woods said in a post on X, formally Twitter.
