NEW JERSEY (FOX 5 NEWS) - If you shop in Watchung, New Jersey, you will no longer be able to buy crib baby bumpers at any store in town. The borough council passed a new ordinance banning the sale of any type of crib baby bumpers,
The ban affects 12 stores including Walmart, Target and Babies R Us. If retailers don't abide by the ban, they could be fined up to $2,500 per sale.
Watchung is not the first community to ban baby bumpers.
Dr. Daniel Herman, a Pediatrician with Summit Medical Group, tells his patients to not use baby bumpers because of the risk to the baby.
We contacted Walmart, Target and Babies R Us. Babies R Us says it will abide by the ban.
Target says it is waiting to get a look at the ordinance.
Walmart has not responded.
