LOS ANGELES, CA - Science, in an attempt to ruin all of our fun, is developing a pill that would "bottle" all the health benefits found in a bottle of wine. Study after study have backed us up, as we reached for glass after glass. Resveratrol protects against stroke, diabetes, heart disease, and Alzheimer's. But there are a few flaws to “a glass a day keeps the doctor away.”
To be medically effective, you need such high concentrations of resveratrol that the amount of alcohol you’d be ingesting would be doing more harm than good. A recent study revealed you'd need to drink 1,000 bottles of wine a day to get an effective enough dose to slow down Alzheimer's. Thus the idea the pill.
Researchers at University of New South Wales are working to combine purified resveratrol with wine's other compounds, which makes the substance more effective. The pills have yet to be clinically tested, so you can still go ahead and treat yourself to a nice bottle of Pinot Noir over dinner. But load up on blueberries and chocolate, because both also contain resveratrol- but neither will give you a hangover.
