WATCH: Donkey milk is the newest health trend
LOS ANGELES, CA - Tired of almond milk? Are you ready for donkey milk? It could be the next big health food trend- if Americans can wrap their heads around the idea. A Swiss company, deliciously named Eurolactis, will soon be packaging the beverage AND making high-end donkey-milk chocolate bars to sell in the U.S. Your first instinct might be "never!" but let's be brave and explore all the wonderful things donkey milk could do for your body.
Compared to cow's milk, it has less fat and more anti-inflammatory omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. The milk is also rich in vitamins and natural substances that have been shown to boost immunity and reportedly help with asthma, eczema, and psoriasis. Your coconut milk doesn't do that.
In Europe, it's already being used as an alternative for children who are allergic to cow's milk because nutritionally, it's the most similar to human milk.
Like many "new" trends, it's actually as old as time- Ancient Greeks and Romans consumed the liquid medicinally.
But how does it taste, you ask? We haven't tried it, but we're emboldened to hear that it's odorless and tastes like skim milk- skim cow milk- only a little sweeter.
For the time being, it could still be hard to get your hands on it. The farms are small and it takes 15 donkeys to produce one gallon of milk. Hmm, hearing how it’s healthy, rare, and expensive suddenly makes us more curious to try it.
