ATLANTA - A woman says her 2-year-old son was hurt after he jumped onto a conveyor belt at the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta and then fell through a luggage chute into a baggage room.
The boy got on at a closed Spirit Airlines ticket counter located on the North Terminal. The boy's mother told local media that she had set her son Lorenzo down so she could print her boarding pass. Moments later she saw him being moved away on the conveyor belt.
Video shows the young boy entering the restricted area through the Spirit counter located on the North Terminal on Monday afternoon. From there, security cameras follow the boy as he rides on the conveyer belt system, at one point, crawling over luggage in an effort to not go through the high-power X-ray machines.
The boy eventually finds his way into the TSA screen room, startling several agents, causing them to jump from their assigned seats and run to the young child’s aid. The agents pull the boy from the belt and are seen comforting him.
Spirit spokesperson said in a statement: "Spirit Airlines is aware of an incident at Hartsfield Jackson Intl in which an unattended child passed by a section of our ticket counter that was not staffed or open at the time. The child was able to access a back baggage area via a bag belt and sustained some injuries. We are currently working with the TSA and airport officials to ensure all protocol was followed. We wish the child the best in their recovery."
An Atlanta police report says a TSA worker alerted authorities after finding Lorenzo in the bag room with only scrapes.
