NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - Joe Biden is officially a presidential candidate, and President Donald Trump welcomed him to the trail as only he can.
In an interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News Channel Thursday, the President said Biden is "not the brightest light bulb in the group." President Trump also called him "sleepy."
Biden spent his first day on the trail as a candidate attending a fundraiser in Philadelphia.
Earlier, he stopped at a pizza shop in Wilmington, Delaware.
A reporter asked Biden why former President Obama hasn't endorsed him. "I asked President Obama not to endorse," he said. "Whoever wins this nomination should win it on their own merits."
Biden is already dealing with fallout from his treatment of Anita Hill, who accused Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas of sexual harassment during his 1991 confirmation hearings. Biden has said he regrets how he handled the matter. He reached out to her a few weeks ago to express his regret.
Hill told The New York Times, "I cannot be satisfied by simply saying, 'I'm sorry for what happened to you.' "I will be satisfied when I know there is real change and real accountability and real purpose." Biden has his first national TV interview as a candidate today.
On Monday, he will hold a rally in Pittsburgh.
