Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has selected Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as his running mate, reports Roll Call.

The official announcement was expected Friday at 11 a.m. at Trump Tower in Manhattan, but after a terror attack unfolded in France, Trump said he would postpone his announcement. He also told Fox News that he had not made his final choice.

Roll Call cited an unidentified Republican with direct knowledge of the decision to choose Pence, 57, a former U.S. congressman.

The staunch conservative has the support of House Speaker Paul Ryan.

He told reporters Thursday: "I hope that he picks a good movement conservative. Clearly Mike is one of those."

The Wisconsin Republican said he didn't know what Trump would do, and hoped he'd make "a good pick and clearly that would be a good one."

Pence had been widely circulated as a possible vice presidential pick for Trump alongside NJ Gov. Chris Christie and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.

The Republican National Convention gets underway in Cleveland next week.

As for Democratic rival Hillary Clinton, political analysts say she'll pick a running mate who doesn't attract controversy.

Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia, who has been vetted before, is a strong possibility.
