Trump attorney threatens to sue The Daily Beast
Old allegations against Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump of raping his ex-wife, Ivana, two decades ago, have resurfaced in The Daily Beast.
Ivana Trump later said during a deposition that she was not raped in the criminal sense but felt violated during sex.
When the story resurfaced on the website this week, Trump's lawyer, Michael Cohen, fired back and threatened to sue.
"You’re talking about the front-runner for the GOP, presidential candidate, as well as a private individual who never raped anybody. And, of course, understand that by the very definition, you can’t rape your spouse. And there’s very clear case law," said Cohen.
However, in New York State, rape of a spouse is a crime.
Cohen went on to tell the website:
"You write a story that has Mr. Trump’s name in it, with the word ‘rape,’ and I’m going to mess your life up…for as long as you’re on this frickin’ planet…you’re going to have judgments against you, so much money, you’ll never know how to get out from underneath it,” said Cohen.
The real estate mogul has made headlines as of late following controversial comments made about Mexican immigrants, Sen. John McCain’s time as a prisoner of war and giving out Sen. Lindsay Graham’s cell phone number during a campaign stop.
