Truck mows down Adelphi student after fender-bender
NEW YORK (FOX5NY.COM) - Loved ones are mourning the loss of Taranjit Parmar, 18, who was mowed down by a hit-and-run driver in what police are calling a horrible tragedy.
The Nassau County Police Department is asking for help. Det. Vincent Garcia said the incident happened during rush hour on Hempstead Turnpike in Levittown, so he believes someone must have witnessed it.
Surveillance video shows Taranjit driving eastbound on Hempstead Turnpike when the driver of a red pickup tried to cut in near Gardiners Avenue. In the video, you can see both cars pull over in front of the gas station but what you don't see is when Taranjit got out she was hit by the truck's driver who then took off.
Police say the driver was a white man wearing a baseball cap. The make and year of the four-door red pickup are unknown.
Taranjit was a student at Adelphi and an aspiring dentist.
Nassau Police are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers 800-244-TIPS. Even if you don't think it is good information, police say anything is helpful.
