Traffic nightmare at LaGuardia Airport
NEW YORK (FOX5NY) - Access roads around LaGuardia Airport became so backed up on Monday morning that many travelers abandoned cars and walked down the highway in an effort to make their flights on time.
There was extra volume of traffic due to the end of the holiday weekend that was compounded by the large ongoing construction project at the airport.
The increased traffic caused hours delay on the Grand Central Parkway. Fox 5's helicopter traffic reporter recommended that anyone headed to the airport give themselves three hours to get there.
The company that is heading up the $5.1 billion building project at the airport has recommended people use public transportation to get to the airport during construction but the city busses use the same congested streets to get to the terminals.
In August, Fox 5 News reported people were running across teh highway to get out of similar traffic delays.
