Powerful thunderstorms that cross the metropolitan New York City area on Tuesday spawned three tornadoes that touched down in three counties.

The National Weather Service confirmed that tornadoes struck Stony Point in Rockland County, New Castle in Westchester County, and Ronkonkoma in Suffolk County

The Rockland tornado was rated an EF1 with 100-mph winds. It hit Harriman State Park, west of the Palisades Interstate Parkway and Gate Hill Road, at about 4:10 PM and tore a path about a mile to Wilderness Drive in Stony Point, NWS said. The twister uprooted and toppled numerous trees.

Starting at about 4:47 p.m., an EF1 tornado with a top wind speed of 110 mph cut a 3.75-mile path in New Castle, snapping and uprooting trees and damaging roofs, NWS said.

Then an EF0 tornado with about 85-mph winds landed in Ronkonkoma at about 11:20 p.m. and damaged houses, cars, and trees along Mohican Avenue, according to NWS.

"Numerous homes sustained damage to siding, gutters, and outdoor furniture," the NWS said. Trees have visibly sheared tops, and at least two or three trees were downed upon cars."

No one was hurt in the tornadoes.

The storms knocked out power and flooded some roads.
