Tornado hits Long Beach Island

Two tornados touched down in Ocean County, N.J. One of the damaged several homes on the northern end of Long Beach Island.

Fast-moving severe storms rolled through the New York area on Thursday evening, causing several tornado warnings and bringing drenching rain and tornadoes to parts of New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

The National Weather Service confirmed that at least four tornadoes hit New Jersey on Thursday. Survey teams are examining more damage so the tornado count may not be complete yet.

The NWS confirmed that two tornadoes touched down in Ocean County. Another touched down in New Hope, Pennsylvania, and then moved across the Delaware River into New Jersey's Mercer County. And a weak tornado briefly touched down in Verona in Essex County, New Jersey.

Video shared on social media showed downed trees and power lines along Perrineville Road southwest of Hightstown.

Video from Long Beach Island showed damaged homes including one with a roof torn off and overturned boats on the northern end of the island in High Bar Harbor. It was not clear if a tornado had made landfall.

Several tornadoes touched down in Pennsylvania, with one causing severe damage in Bucks County.

Flash flooding from the storms turned some neighborhood streets in some parts of New Jersey into rivers. Nearly an inch of rain fell near Trenton.

As the storm moved out to sea, the region dried out overnight and temperatures stayed in the 60s.
