Crews rush to repair Edison, NJ water main break

A major water main break in Edison, New Jersey, has left approximately 20,000 residents and businesses without running water.

A massive water main break overnight in Edison has left roughly 20,000 residents and businesses without running water.

Crews have been working since early Thursday morning to repair the 20-inch main that burst near M Lane and Woodbridge Avenue.

According to Edison Mayor Sam Joshi, the break is linked to the town's aging infrastructure, whose problems were exacerbated by recent freezing temperatures.

"This is a larger problem with aging infrastructure in general. Some of these pipes date back to about 80 years," Joshi said.

Businesses in the affected area have also been forced to close temporarily, with signs on doors informing customers of the disruption.

Crews are expected to work into the night to complete the repairs and restore service. Residents are advised to rely on bottled water until the situation is resolved.

For updates on the repair efforts, residents can visit Edison’s municipal website or Facebook page.
