The backstory:

The risk of metal contamination was first discovered after Bestway Sandwiches Inc. received a consumer complaint reporting that a piece of metal was found in the frozen taquitos. Another consumer reported to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) that they received a dental injury from the product.

By the numbers:

Approximately 24,870 pounds of frozen chicken and cheese taquito products are part of the recall, the USDA notice said.

What's next:

The FSIS said it's concerned that some of the recalled products may be in consumers’ freezers. Anyone who has purchased these taquitos is urged not to eat them, and instead should throw them away or return to the place of purchase.

Consumers with questions about the recall can contact Bestway Foods Co. QA Department at (818) 361-1800 EXT.110. Anyone with food safety questions can call the toll-free USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 888-MPHotline (888-674-6854) or send a question via email to MPHotline@usda.gov.

What they're saying:

Aldi said in its own statement about the recall that it "puts the safety and integrity of the products it sells first."

"If customers have products affected by this recall, they are advised to discard it immediately or return it to their local store for a full refund," the store said in a statement. "ALDI sincerely regrets the inconvenience and concern caused as a result of this recall."
