Table tennis Olympian coaching at NJ college
NEW JERSEY (FOX 5 NEWS) - Lily Yip returned from coaching the U.S. Olympic table tennis team in Rio and now she is in New Jersey at Pillar College living the American dream.
For years Yip was a professional table tennis player in China, where she played several hours a day, every day.
After moving to the United States back in 1987, Yip quickly rose up the tennis table ranks and represented the U.S. at the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games. And this year she returned to the Olympics as a coach.
Yip now wants to continue spreading her love of the sport, as the coach of Pillar College's table tennis team. For Pillar College, table tennis was the perfect sport to initiate their collegiate athletics program.
Pillar offered Yip more than just the opportunity to be a mentor. She joined Pillar as a graduate psychology student. So she is also a player. The students here are thrilled to have such a legendary teammate.
