Swastikas, racial slur scrawled on playground equipment

Racist and offensive graffiti was found on some of the slides at Baldwin Park in Baldwin, Long Island. Town of Hempstead Supervisor Anthony Santino said whoever is responsible will be caught and held accountable.

"We will not stand idly by when criminals threaten the serene nature of one of our parks," Santino said.

The town reported the graffiti to Nassau County police on Wednesday. Police are investigating it as a hate crime.

Most of the graffiti has since been removed.

It hits close to home for state Sen. Todd Kaminsky. His wife was at the park with their son when they found it.

"Even if looked at in the best light -- someone was doing a prank, they need to know there was a clear line they crossed," Kaminsky said.

Officials ask anyone with information to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS.
