NEW YORK - A truck driver who was supposed to be delivering packages was stealing them instead, police in New York City said.
A woman operating an Amazon delivery truck was caught on surveillance video stealing packages from the front porch of a home in Brooklyn on Saturday, Oct. 29, around 3:10 p.m., the NYPD said.
The woman was seen on a surveillance video getting out of the truck to deliver packages to a home in the area of 58th Street and 13th Avenue in Borough Park.
She was seen removing packages that were already at the home and loading them into the truck, the NYPD said. The woman also opened and removed items from the packages that she was delivering to the home, cops said. She then drove off.
The homeowner told FOX 5 NY's Linda Schmidt that the packages the driver stole contained dresses for his daughter's wedding from a store in New Jersey. He said the store informed him that someone returned the dresses in exchange for a digital gift card.
In a statement, an Amazon spokesperson said the company had identified the driver, who is "no longer delivering packages for Amazon."
"We've reached out to apologize to the customer and help replace the stolen items," spokesperson Branden Baribeau said. "We're also coordinating with the NYPD to assist as they continue to investigate."
