Second snowstorm in under a week hits NYC, tri-state area
The second snowstorm in under a week hit the region on Sunday afternoon, leaving about 3 inches of snow in the city and as much as eight inches in surrounding areas.
NEW YORK - A second winter snowstorm in less than a week dropped several inches of snow across the region on Sunday.
Fordham, in the Bronx, reported over seven inches of snowfall, while much of Nassau and Suffolk Counties reported at least six inches of snow, with eight inches reported in North Syosset and in Commack.
Westchester County also saw several inches of snow, with Hastings-on-Hudson reporting six and a half inches of snow.

Multiple counties in New Jersey reported half a foot of snow or more in areas, with Middlesex, Morris and Somerset Counties reporting up to 8 inches of snow in some areas.
Most of the snow, which began Sunday morning, finished during the late afternoon, save for in some sections of eastern Long Island.
New York City extended its alternate side of the street parking suspension through Friday, February 12, and suspended outdoor dining on Sunday as well.

Suspended street dining frustrates restaurants
New York City restaurants were left frustrated Sunday as street dining was suspended in order to allow plows to clean the city streets.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Sunday afternoon that the city's schools would be open for in-person learning on Monday, February 8.

Trucks from New York City's sanitation department were on the roads all day, plowing and spreading salt to keep roads clear. Trash and recycling collection will remain delayed as cleanup efforts continue.
The storm will not be the last of winter weather we see this week, as a blast of frigid arctic air moves into the area this week and more snow will be possible on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Remember to stay prepared for possible power outages and use caution when walking, biking, or driving.
Before a power outage:

- Turn refrigerator/freezers to a colder setting
During an Outage:
- Stay clear of downed power lines
- Turn off all appliances
- Keep refrigerator/freezer doors closed to prevent food spoilage
- Do not use generators indoors
