Students compete in new reality cooking show 'Newark Chops'
NEW JERSEY - Students at Newark Vocational High School are the stars of the new reality series ‘Newark Chops,’ blending their passion for cooking with teamwork and creativity.
The series, produced by Newark Public Schools, showcases the Culinary Arts Academy and provides students with real-world experience in the kitchen.
The backstory:
The show prepares students for the competitive restaurant industry, which employs hundreds of thousands in the New York area.
"What we have here at Newark Vocational is probably the best and most realistic experience our kids can ever be exposed to. So that makes me feel like they’re ready to take on anything once they graduate," said teacher John Calache.
On the show, students demonstrate their skills, creating dishes like chimichurri sauce and loaded baked potatoes. The show provides a platform for these young chefs to hone their craft and showcase their talents.
Newark Chopped is now streaming on Newark Public Schools’ platform, giving viewers an inspiring glimpse into the lives of these talented young chefs. The series aims to prepare students for future success, whether they enter the restaurant industry or pursue other passions.
