It is week two at the Iken Science Academy -- the first science, technology, engineering and mathematics-focused preschool on Long Island.

Founder Monica Iken-Murphy says it's a positive initiative to help kids succeed. The school, located in Jericho, is named in honor of her late husband Michael Iken, who was killed in the September 11 attacks.

Children have an opportunity to touch, feel and see things for themselves. The goal is to start early. Research shows students with a STEM education have an easier time finding jobs that pay more.

The program runs from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with early drop-off and late pick-up options. Tuition starts at $3,500.
