This Sunday a very special concert will take place at the Museum of Jewish Heritage in Battery Park City. Soul to Soul is a cross cultural exploration of African-American and Yiddish music presented by the national theatre Folksbiene. Musical director Zalmen Mlotek says this concert is about community building.

The program is in commemoration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, who supported civil rights for everyone, including Jewish people, says the president of the Foundation for Ethnic Understanding Rabbi Marc Schneier. The concert with be presented in English and Yiddish by a cross-cultural cast including stage star Lisa Fishman, renowned Israeli cantor Magda Fishman, and international opera singer Elmore James.

While this weekend's performance is focused on the Jewish and African-American connection, Yiddish culture has influenced many genres of music from Broadway to Jazz.

Tickets are $20 and are still available for Sunday's performance. Come explore our nation's soulful heritage with Soul to Soul.
