Snow hits New York City region

A snow storm targeted parts of the New York City region on Monday with the heaviest snowfall east of the city on Long Island and north in Connecticut.

The National Weather Service says a couple of inches could accumulate in the city Monday through Tuesday night, and the snow could even stretch into Wednesday night.

A Connecticut charter bus accident on Interstate 95 during the snowstorm has left at least 30 people injured, including six critically.

The state Department of Transportation says the accident happened at around 12:30 p.m. Monday in Madison.

Many schools in Connecticut and some on Long Island were closed.

The NYC Dept. of Sanitation has issued a snow alert which allows them to supplement personnel, load salt spreaders, attach plows if necessary and prepare tire chains.

Sanitation says it has also coordinated with the city's Office of Emergency Management and Department of Transportation.

A coastal flood warning is in effect for parts of the region.
