Snow, bitter cold to grip NYC
NEW YORK - A bitter blast of arctic air is set to settle into the area this evening.
The leftovers of a fast-moving weather system coming out of Canada, known as an Alberta Clipper, moved into the Northeast Friday afternoon, bringing some of the ingredients needed for measurable snowfall. Meanwhile, a coastal low off the East Coast is bringing additional energy spinning up off the Carolinas.
Light snow is expected to fall across the region into the overnight hours, with less than half an inch in the city and a few inches of accumulation in the mid-Hudson Valley by Saturday morning.
Wind speeds should gust as high as 25 mph in some areas tonight.
Following the quick shot of snow, temperatures will plunge through early next week into the teens and single digits across the Northeast before rebounding for Christmas.
Highs on Saturday are expected to reach into the 20s and 30s. However, by Sunday morning, low temperatures will drop into the teens and even single digits for interior portions of the Northeast.

When winds gusting up to 30 mph are factored in, it will feel more like the single digits or even subzero in areas such as Boston and Syracuse, New York.
This cold continues into Monday, the start of the holiday week, too, with many waking up in the single digits. Monday morning could easily go down as the coldest start since February 2023.
Luckily, the chill is short-lived and the warmth engulfing most of the country moves into the Northeast by Thursday.
