NEW YORK (FOX5NY.COM) - The kids are almost out of school so it's time to start thinking about keeping them occupied. Plus, what should you get Dad for Father's Day?
Slickdeals smart shopping expert Trae Bodge says this is a great time to book a summer vacation. She says travel is always hot in June, across all categories, from flights to trains to hotels to rental cars.
Travelocity has deals in San Francisco, Orlando, Bangkok, Playa del Carmen, and Cancun.
Costco has discounted packages at the Grand Hyatt in the Bahamas and at the Hard Rock Hotel in Riviera Maya.
If you're staying home this summer, Trae says, June is also a great time to save on movies and entertainment. Look for sales on everything from movie tickets to streaming services to DVD downloads. Regal Cinemas has dollar movies for kids from June through August.
But, Trae says, don't expect discounts on video games. Verizon has Samsung's Gear VR 2016 Edition virtual reality headset for $20 plus free shipping. That's 80 percent off.
Don't forget about Father's Day on June 17. Trae says team apparel, tools, home improvement items, and fitness trackers will all be on sale.
Macy's has 20 percent off sitewide with the code "DAD" the week before Father's Day.
Dick's Sporting Goods has half-price golf clubs, $50 off Yeti coolers, and half-price athletic apparel.
Lowe's has up to 40 percent off select tools.
This is also a great time for home goods.
Wayfair has TV stands, sofas, and chairs up to 80 percent off.
Hobby Lobby has a coupon for 40 percent off one full-priced item, plus home decor at 50 percent off.
Trae says Amazon started discounting home goods in June. She expects other retailers to jump on that bandwagon this year. Look for good deals across the board.
Home decor does not include outdoor furniture and grills, so wait to buy those. You'll find much better deals at the end of the season.
Trae also says, don't jump on those back-to-school sales just yet. It's scary to think about, but those sales will start creeping out later this month. The real deals, however, will come at the end of summer and early fall.
