NEW YORK - An upstate New York woman has been arrested and charged with attempting to decapitate her dog.
The Greene County Sheriff's Office says after Pauline Waldron attempted the decapitation with a sword, she stabbed the animal several times, leaving the dog in "extreme pain" for about eight hours before it was taken for life-saving surgery at Catskill Animal Hospital.
The animal was then taken to a veterinary specialist for further care.
Five other dogs in her home were seized and turned over to the Columbia-Greene Humane Society.
Waldron, from Cairo, has been charged with aggravated animal cruelty. She was released on her own recognizance.
