Sheriff: NY woman tried to decapitate dog with sword

An upstate New York woman has been arrested and charged with attempting to decapitate her dog.

The Greene County Sheriff's Office says after Pauline Waldron attempted the decapitation with a sword, she stabbed the animal several times, leaving the dog in "extreme pain" for about eight hours before it was taken for life-saving surgery at Catskill Animal Hospital.

The animal was then taken to a veterinary specialist for further care.

Five other dogs in her home were seized and turned over to the Columbia-Greene Humane Society.

Waldron, from Cairo, has been charged with aggravated animal cruelty.  She was released on her own recognizance.
