NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - A security guard died at a cargo building serving Terminal 8 at John F. Kennedy International Airport on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Port Authority.
"All workplace fatalities are tragedies and the agency of course will assist all parties in any way possible during the investigation of this sad event," the Port Authority said in a statement offering condolences to the contract guard's family.
The details of the guard's death were not released. But according to a preliminary emergency alert, the guard may have been fatally injured in an elevator shaft mishap.
The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Port Authority Police Department are investigating, officials said.
