Search for drowning swimmer off Rockaway Beach 'unfounded', FDNY reports

The FDNY has said that reports of a drowning swimmer at Rockaway Beach are deemed 'unfounded.'

Officials received a call just before 5 p.m. about someone who looked as if they were drowning.

NYPD, FDNY, and the Coast Guard were on scene- A helicopter was seen lowering a diver into the water near Beach 97th Street.

The search has reportedly been called off.
