UPPER MARLBORO, Md. - Riders on a roller coaster at Six Flags America were safely removed from their ride after it stalled on the tracks Monday afternoon.
Prince George’s County fire officials said people on the "Superman: Ride of Steel" roller coaster were briefly stranded and staff members from the theme park safely got them down from the ride.
No fire or EMS personnel were required to assist in helping the riders down, according to officials.
The 205-foot-tall roller coaster, which first opened in 2000, has 5,400 feet of twisting track and riders travel at a maximum speed of 73 miles per hour on the ride.
Last year, 24 people were rescued from the Joker's Jinx roller coaster at Six Flags America after the ride stalled at around 100 feet in the air. It took more than three hours for a rescue team, using fire truck ladder buckets, to get all of the stranded riders safely to the ground from the stuck roller coaster.
A 14-year-old boy was hospitalized last week after a near-drowning at the theme park.
