The shooting occurred about 1:15 p.m. in or near a shoe store on Highland Avenue just north of Hollywood Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The victim -- identified in multiple reports as Young Dolph, 32, whose real name is Adolph Thornton Jr. -- was in stable condition when rushed to a hospital, according to reports from the scene. Although police did not
immediately confirm his identity, at least one witness to the shooting posted on Twitter that he saw the rapper being loaded into an ambulance.
According to LAPD, Young Dolph was staying at the hotel when his entourage got into an altercation with Yo Gotti's crew.
Young Dolph was shot in the torso several times, before he ran across the street to Shoe Palace to get help.
FOX 11 obtained surveillance video of the altercation from a nearby Seven Eleven.
"The video is a depiction of some type of altercation that takes place in front of the hotel behind me, and at one point in the video an individual produces a gun and fires toward the individual who was shot," said Cory Palka, an officer with LAPD's Hollywood Division. "There is information that points towards those individuals and their entourages being here at the time."
Young Dolph was listed in critical, but stable condition, and is expected to survive.
Earlier this year, Young Dolph's SUV was shot at more than 100 times in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Blacc Youngsta, who is signed with Yo Gotti, later turned himself into police for the shooting.
"We are well aware of the incident that took place in Charlotte and we have made or attempted to make contact with authorities in that state," officer Palka said.
LAPD told FOX 11 that two people have been detained, but Yo Gotti is not one of them.
No arrests have been made yet.
