Rihanna: Rachel Dolezal is a 'hero'

Rachel Dolezal, the former NAACP executive who resigned in 2015 after it was revealed she was a white woman passing herself off as black, is a hero, according to pop sensation Rihanna.

"I think she was a bit of a hero, because she kind of flipped on society a little bit. She legit changed people’s perspective a bit and woke people up," Rihanna tells Vanity Fair for its November cover story.

Dolezal, 37, was the head of Spokane, Washington's NAACP chapter. She also lost her job at Eastern Washington University where she worked as an adjunct professor.

The revelation of her true racial make-up-- Czech, Swedish and German-- caused a national uproar.
